A Slice of Spread(Sheet Cake)

About a year ago we placed Tahlequah Habitat for Humanity partner Daree New on our New DSL Orders Spreadsheet. She and her young child had recently moved in to their new Habitat home after leaving some unsafe public housing in Oklahoma. The father had left the picture and offered no support. Daree wanted a better life for herself and her child, so she turned to Habitat for Humanity and the AccessAll program.

Daree has since obtained her college degree to become a social worker and earned an internship at a local middle school. She cites the combination of a stable home and an internet connection as vital to the accomplishment. Daree worked hard, earning scholarships while waiting on tables, and having DSL at home enabled her to forgo extra babysitting costs (and time) associated with using school computer labs.

We're planning to have an office party, sometime around the end of February or first of March 2009, when the Habitat enrollment period ends for AccessAll. As we lovingly cut into our Spread(Sheet Cake), let us remember Daree New's story (and many others like it) as the icing on the AccessAll cake.
